Communications/Advocacy Strategy
-
Pakistan has experienced unprecedented heavy monsoon rains, especially since mid-July, causing widespread flooding affecting 116 districts across the four provinces. As of September 2, 2022, more than 1,208 people, including at least 416 children, have lost their lives, while 33 million people – including 16 million children – have been severely affected. The worst flooding in decades has destroyed homes, schools, healthcare facilities, and livelihoods.
In my role as a communications lead, I worked closely with country teams to respond to the crisis through strategic communications and media efforts. I led the development of this communications strategy, coordinated with various stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information, highlighting the urgent needs and relief efforts.
My work included crafting compelling messages for different audiences, managing media relations, and leveraging social media platforms to amplify the response and garner international support for the affected communities.

In 2022, Save the Children Country Office in Vietnam underwent a restructure of their Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications, and Media (ACCM) department.
I was seconded to the country and led their national communications and advocacy strategic plan, successfully enhancing their country profile and achieving a significant increment in executive buy-in.

COP28 was one of the key moments for Save the Children International to elevate our advocacy work on increasing climate political commitments to children and their rights, including through children’s own views and recommendations along with a public and sustained recognition by key stakeholders that the climate crisis is a child rights crisis.
I was part of the core team and led the development of the advocacy strategic framework, which was then adopted by country and regional offices across 35+ countries globally. My role included leading in-country consultation, crafting strategic advocacy objectives, Pre-COP28 plan, and cross-thematic advocacy work. -
Global Climate Strikes, also called the Global Week for Future, was a massive series of protests demanding action on climate change and considered as one of the largest coordinated global protests in History.
From September 20th to 27th, millions of students, parents, trade unions, businesses, health workers, scientists, celebrities, people of all backgrounds, ages, regions and faiths came together in all corners of the globe calling for climate action. The biggest day, September 20th, saw strikes and rallies in over 4,500 locations across 150 countries, with estimates suggesting over 4 million people participated.I was hired by 350.org as a short-term consultant to spearhead the global communications effort for the climate strike. During this time, I led the development and implementation of the communications strategy. I also closely coordinated with tier-1 global media outlets, international NGOs, Fridays for Future UK, and young activists around the world. This resulted in achieving a media reach of over 5 million throughout September.

Policy Brief
-
In 2022, Indonesia held the G20 presidency, focusing on the theme "Recover Together, Recover Stronger". This theme emphasized the importance of collective action to address global challenges, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this stint, I was part of the Education Working Group under the Civil-20 (C20) coalition. Together with key members from various civil society organizations in Asia, I was one of the contributing authors of this policy brief, highlighting crucial pathways and recommendations for the G20 leaders to strengthen efforts on educational recovery in the post-pandemic world.
The policy recommendations and lobbying efforts for the 21st Century skills adoption were highly successful; several of the recommendations were endorsed by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, leading to impactful changes in their educational policies. -
“The Hidden Impact of COVID-19 on children – A global research series” by Save the Children is the largest and most comprehensive study on the impact of COVID-19 on children. The global study reveals the hidden impacts of pandemic response measures which are impacting children’s health, nutrition, education, learning, protection, wellbeing, family finances and poverty.
I was part of the core communications team of the study and provided policy recommendations to address child poverty (Pages 59-61), children's health & nutrition (Pages 39-41), and gender equality. -
Domestic violence remains a pervasive and complex social issue in Indonesia, despite legal prohibitions and policy efforts. According to the National Commission on Violence against Women, there were 338,496 reported cases of violence against women in 2021, a nearly 50% increase from the previous year. Women are disproportionately affected by domestic violence, with data from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection in Indonesia showing that in 2023, out of the total 11,324 domestic violence cases, 16,351 victims were women.
This reflective policy essay examines my personal perspective on the challenges and complexities surrounding domestic violence cases in the country. -
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in immense tragedy, profoundly affecting the lives of hundreds of millions of children and their families in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Despite substantial governmental responses and the heroic efforts of medical personnel and other essential workers, this global crisis has imparted several costly lessons.
As a contributor to this policy brief, I spearheaded the development of policy recommendations for each chapter.

Social Media Toolkit
-
On November 23-24, 2020, donor countries, the Government of Afghanistan, civil society, and other key stakeholders gathered in Geneva and online for the 2020 Afghanistan Conference.
Save the Children International organized various activities in conjunction with the conference.
I led the social media and communications efforts, including developing this toolkit, along with the key messages, social media cards, captions, and the webinar poster.
My initiatives resulted in a significant increase in engagement across our social media platforms, with a 40% rise in shares and a 35% boost in follower growth during the conference period. -
"This is our shot" is an innovative Save the Children ACTIVATE initiative that leverages targeted social media and digital platforms to boost vaccination rates in low and middle-income countries. By applying behavioral science, the project tailors its messages, tools, and channels to address specific concerns within different populations, ultimately encouraging a greater willingness to vaccinate.
My role was to lead the country consultations to implement tactics such as contextual video and static ads targeted to each country featuring a clear call to action, facts and simple messages, delivered by effective ‘messengers’, including children, influencers, and medical professionals.
The campaign reached more than 150 million people in 12 countries across Meta platforms in an effort to promote vaccine confidence and boost jab rates so children’s lives can return to normal.
This is the comprehensive toolkit I developed. -
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the global race for vaccines, 2021 is a pivotal year. Vaccines are widely regarded as the most effective solution to end the pandemic, representing hope and a return to normalcy.
"The Little Jab Book" offers 18 strategies, based on behavioral sciences, to enhance vaccine uptake throughout the vaccination process. It also includes a primer on essential formative research and potential barriers to consider before adapting these strategies to various contexts.
During this project, I crafted captions for social media posts, developed the toolkit, and supervised an external graphic design consultant to create a series of social media cards.

The Climate Adaptation Summit 2021 was a global online conference held in January 2021 to accelerate and scale up adaptation efforts worldwide. Hosted by the Netherlands, the summit brought together leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss and implement concrete actions to build resilience against climate change impacts. It aimed to mobilize finance, share knowledge, and foster partnerships to protect vulnerable communities and economies.
As the leading communications professional working with young climate activists, my role was pivotal in amplifying their voices and creating effective messaging. I collaborated closely with these passionate individuals to understand their perspectives and concerns, transforming them into compelling narratives.
I developed a comprehensive social media toolkit, equipped with engaging visuals, informative content, and strategic guidelines.
